The Americans with Disabilities Act in the Workplace

Session Description

This webinar provides an in-depth overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), covering its legal framework, the definition of disability, and the rights and responsibilities of employees and employers. Attendees will learn how to work with Human Resources to request and implement reasonable accommodations, the step-by-step process for providing accommodations, and how to navigate potential challenges, including undue hardship considerations. The session will also address confidentiality protections, ensuring employees’ medical information remains private.  By the end, participants will have a clear understanding of ADA compliance, workplace protections, and how to advocate for accessible and inclusive work environments.

About the Presenter

Andrew Barna, Jr., Esq.

Andrew is a licensed attorney in both New York and Texas. He currently serves as the Director of Employee Relations here at Texas A&M since 2019 and he is charged with overseeing the University’s ADA and FMLA program for all employees. Prior to his tenure at TAMU, he served as Director of Employee and Labor Relations at the State University of New York System Office for over 15 years.  He has over 20 years of experience dealing with ADA related issues.
