Strategies for Working with Attendance-Based Accommodations: Exploring Ways Instructors Approach Support
August 21, 2024 @ 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Event Description
Higher education has faced several post-COVID challenges, including a greater demand for flexibility and increased rates of absenteeism, prompting many to revise attendance and deadline policies to better balance expectations. For disabled students with chronic conditions which lead to episodic and unexpected flares, the Plan for Absences and Missed Deadlines accommodation can be an appropriate option for supporting access when attendance and completion of work is impacted by disability-related absences.
In this one-hour session, Disability Resources will facilitate a discussion panel with several faculty members across a variety of departments and course types regarding their strategies for supporting the Plan for Absences and Missed Deadlines accommodation in their courses. Attendees will learn more about the intent and expectations behind the accommodation, challenges that may arise, and methods for developing a plan and addressing common issues in light of their own course design.
This session will be hosted via Zoom and a captioned recording will be made available to registered attendees within one week after the event.
