Conversation is the key to building community, empathy and understanding. By participating in student discussion panels with Disability Resources, students have the opportunity to share their Aggie experience, tell their story and offer their unique perspective to our campus.
“Participating in student panels has allowed me to share my story of how I see an experience the world from my point of view to help attendees better understand what others with similar disabilities could be experiencing. With student discussion panels, you get to spread awareness and advocate for yourself and others like you. It also allows you to hear from fellow students and gain new perspectives on how others experience a range of things, like specific situations to life in general.” — Lorrie Hill, Kinesiology
What is a student discussion panel?
Student discussion panels offer an interactive presentation rooted in conversation and firsthand experience. Panels incorporate perspectives from 3-5 students with varying disabilities and cover topics such as inclusion, access, accommodations and the Aggie experience.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to consider hosting a student discussion panel for departmental events, staff meetings or professional development opportunities. Panelists and a Disability Resources staff member serving as a moderator will work to identify questions to spark conversation, and participants have a time to ask questions of their own.
