Peer Notetaking
Some disability-related barriers may impact a student’s ability to effectively take notes during class.
Disability Resources works with students to determine when a notetaking accommodation or other campus resource may support their notetaking needs and strategies. Learn more about notetaking resources and accommodations
Details for Students with a Peer Notetaking Accommodation
Students approved for Peer Notetaking will need to request accommodation letters before confirming a need for a peer notetaking volunteer in their classes.
Students with the Peer Notetaking accommodation will:
- Carefully consider if peer notes are needed in a class (Example: An instructor shares notes with all students or the class is a non-lecture course).
- Acknowledge the confirmation for each class where a peer notetaking volunteer is needed.
- Work with their Access coordinator if a peer notetaking volunteer cannot be matched.
- Contact the Notetaking Coordinator if there are questions or concerns about a notetaker or uploaded files.
Please note: It may take up to two weeks to match a peer notetaking volunteer, so it is important to request your Peer Notetaking accommodation as soon as you know notes will be needed in a course.
Details for Peer Notetaker Volunteers
When a student has Peer Notetaking as an accommodation, Disability Resources will work to match a peer notetaking volunteer already enrolled in their course or another section taught by the same instructor.
Peer notetaking volunteers will:
- Receive a notification from the Notetaking coordinator when they have been matched in a class.
- Upload a copy of their notes to the AIM Notetaker Portal as a PDF, Word document or scanned image of hand-written notes within 48 hours of class.
- Notify the Notetaking Coordinator when they are absent from class, no notes were taken or when notetaking is not necessary in a class.
- Earn up to 48 hours of volunteer credit for serving as a volunteer notetaker.
If you have received a notification you were matched as a peer notetaking volunteer, please follow the instructions in the email to confirm your assignment and begin uploading notes.
If you have any questions, please contact the Notetaking Coordinator at [email protected].
