Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start the process for requesting accommodations?
To request disability accommodations with Texas A&M University, students should submit an accommodations request application and upload relevant supporting documentation through the AIM Accommodations Portal. Students may request accommodations before or during the semester, but the review and setup process can take up to three weeks. After the request is reviewed, an Access Coordinator will follow up to discuss the request, ask for additional information if needed, and schedule a new student meeting to begin setting up accommodations.
Is my K-12 IEP or 504 Plan enough documentation to support accommodations at Texas A&M University?
Wile typically an IEP (Individual Education Plan) or 504 Plan alone does not meet our published documentation guidelines, it may provide some initial information to start the process. Disability Resources reviews all relevant information, including the student’s self-report, documentation from qualified providers or evaluators, and previous accommodation plans, to understand the impact of the disability and determine appropriate accommodations. If the documentation submitted does not meet these guidelines, Disability Resources will advise what information is missing and will be necessary to determine eligibility and accommodations. Please review our documentation guidelines to understand what information we consider when determining eligibility and appropriate accommodations.
Do my high school accommodations automatically transfer to Texas A&M University?
High school accommodations do not automatically transfer to Texas A&M University. In college, students are responsible for disclosing their disability, making specific accommodation requests, and providing documentation that supports those requests; previous accommodations may be considered, but accommodations are determined individually based on documented needs, functional impacts and known barriers.
How can I check the status of an accommodations request application I already submitted?
Most accommodation requests are reviewed within a couple of weeks, though the process may take longer during busy periods such as the start of the semester, holidays, or finals. Once a determination is made about your accommodations request application, you will receive an email through your official Texas A&M University email. You can also check the status of your application by visiting the AIM accommodations portal. If you have not heard from Disability Resources within three weeks of submitting a New Student Application, contact the office to check on the status of your request.
How do I give Disability Resources permission to talk about my accommodations with a parent or family member?
As a student, you may choose to allow Disability Resources to discuss information about your case with a parent or family member by submitting an information release consent with our office. While your parent or guardian may sign a FERPA or information release with another campus office, these are not visible to Disability Resources and our staff will only be able to share general information if an information release consent is not submitted in your AIM accommodations portal.
