Disability Resources will obtain, create and/or distribute required course materials in specialized alternative formats as long as the materials are for the exclusive use of students with approved disabilities. These alternative formats may include PDF, DOC, EPUB, HTML and/or BRF.

Through the provision of this document, Texas A&M University / Assistive Technology Services agrees to provide the following services:

  1. The Department of Disability Resources will determine if the student qualifies as having an approved disability and is eligible for alternative formats of copyrighted materials.
  2. Texas A&M University / Assistive Technology Services will provide access to the requested alternative format, when it is available.
  3. Texas A&M University / Assistive Technology Services will train the student to use the alternative format files and provide support throughout the duration of the Agreement.

By acknowledging these guidelines, the student agrees to the following conditions:

  1. The student must qualify to use alternative formats by having an approved disability.
  2. The student must have personal access to a copy of the requested text, which could be acquired through purchase, rental or loan and must be in their possession.
  3. Verification, such as a sales receipt, rental slip or physical possession, may be requested to determine access and/or ownership.
  4. The student must currently be registered as a student at Texas A&M University and be enrolled in the course for which materials are requested.
  5. The student will not distribute the alternative format material provided by Disability Resources or share any logins associated with their alternative format resources with any other person.
  6. Copyrighted alternative format texts will only be available during the semester for which the student is registered for that class.
  7. The student agrees these alternative format texts are provided to them at no charge (other than indirectly through standard academic and student service fees).
    • Thanks to donations from The Association of Former Students, Disability Resources is able to purchase separate copies of books, when needed, to use to make alternative formats instead of having to borrow and potentially cut the student’s copy of the book.
  8. All requests should be made via the student’s AIM portal under Alternative Formats (see left side navigation menu). Instructions for requesting materials can also be found at https://disability.tamu.edu/aim.
  9. The student agrees to follow the procedures outlined by Disability Resources for making requests, gaining access to and utilizing the alternative format files.
