Below are a few guidelines for being a peer notetaking volunteer:

Assignment & Delivery of Notes

  • Notetakers must be enrolled in the class they are taking notes for.
  • Notetakers must confirm their assignment within 72 hours after the Notetaking Coordinator makes the assignment.
  • Notetakers must deliver course notes by uploading them within 48 hours after the end of each class meeting.
  • Notetakers are responsible for e-mailing the Notetaking Coordinator at: [email protected] if a notetaker is not needed in the class because the instructor provides complete lecture notes.
  • PowerPoint slides without complete additional notes are not an acceptable form of notes.
  • If complete notes are provided by the instructor, your assignment may be cancelled.
  • Notetakers are responsible for uploading all notes using one of the following file formats:
  • Microsoft Word Compatible Document (*.docx)
  • Adobe Acrobat PDF (*.pdf)
  • Rich Text File (*.rtf)
  • Scanners are available on campus if needing to scan handwritten notes. there are also free apps such as: Office Lens, CamScanner, Adobe Scan etc. which allows you to take pictures with your phone and convert them into pdf files.

Confidentiality

Notetakers are expected to keep all information regarding student(s) with disabilities confidential. This includes students’ names and contact information. You cannot share any details or information regarding DR students to anyone (including professors & other students with disabilities).

Course Absence Policy

If a notetaker knows they will miss class, it is appreciated if they can arrange to get a copy of another student’s notes to upload to the portal. They can always upload a note Word or PDF document that states they were absent from class on a given day so the student receiving notes and Notetaking coordinator are aware of the absence.

Please note: Frequent delays and absences may result in cancellation of a notetaking assignment and will not be provided the volunteer hours.

Volunteer Hours

Volunteer hours will be provided to Notetakers who have consistently uploaded notes throughout the semester. The volunteer verification letter will be provided after finals are over for the semester.
