Chemistry Building Addition

Building Number: 376

Map Quadrant: H-6

Accessible Parking: The nearest accessible parking is located near PA 23. There is (1) accessible space located next to Scoates Hall, off of Spence St. The curb ramp is located in front of the space. There is also (1) accessible space in the North side of the lot, on the South side of the building. The curb ramp is located in front of the space.

Exterior Signage: There are no signs indicating the route to the nearest accessible entrance. The signage at the accessible entrance does not display the International Symbol of Accessibility.

Curb Cuts: There are (2) curb cuts located around this building. (1) Adjacent to the SW entrance, the ramp does not have flared sides and is not located or protected to prevent obstruction by parked vehicles. (2) Adjacent to the SE corner of the building, the transition from ramp to walk is bumpy. Also, the ramp is not located or protected to prevent obstruction by parked vehicles.

Ramps: There is (1) ramp location at this building. It is located on the South side of the building, extending from the SW entrance to the perimeter walkways. Level landings are not provided at the top and bottom of the ramp and the height of the handrail is not within 34 to 38 inches.

Exterior Entrances: There are (4) entrances to this building, however only (2) are accessible. (1) On the North side of the building, at the loading dock area, the threshold is bumpy. (2) On the South side of the building, there were no barriers identified. All exterior entrance/exit doors require a high pull force to open, due to unbalanced air within the building.

Interior Signage: Letters and numerals are not raised above the surface and no Braille is provided. Mounting height is not ADA accessible. Also, the signs are not mounted on the latch side of the door.

Restrooms: There are restrooms on all floors that are designated accessible however, only some conditions here are acceptable by ADA standards.

Fountains: There are fountains on all floors that are designated accessible however, only some conditions here are acceptable by ADA standards.

Elevators: There are (2) elevators in this building. The height to the center of the call button panel exceeds 42 inches is difficult to reach from the front and the side. The elevator does not incorporate an audible signal which sounds once for ‘up’ and twice for ‘down.’ Raised characters and Braille designations are not provided on both jambs. Also the emergency communication system is not in Braille and requires voice transmission.
